On a clean install of both Panther 7B85 and ViaVoice 3.02, the VV setup assistant sees the Andrea NC7100 headset and mic but never progresses to the screen for training by reading various text passages. An email to ScanSoft (the new owners--damn you IBM for abandoning this application) was answered with a message that they have not yet tested VV with any version of Panther--(company too small to get a developer preview?) and do not know when an update will be ready (my feeling is never).
This is a real PITA, especially after SJ and Apple promoted VV so heavily early in the Mac OS X 10.1 launch.
If ScanSoft is letting VV die by neglect (they make competing voice recognition solutions), then maybe it is time to turn to iListen 1.6.2 but this application supports neither the crappy Anrea NC7100 that came with VV nor the better Plantronics DSP series that came with PC versions of VV. And I really don't want to buy a third headset in as many years.
Is there any other VR solution out there for OS X 10.3?

The Andrea USB headset that came packaged with ViaVoice X works fine with iListen X for me. IListen is usable with most USB headsets, are you certain either that or Plantronics (they sell several models on their website) headsets won't work?

Also, try trashing the VVIEController file in Applications/ViaVoice/Utilities/Command&Control/Third Part Plug-ins folder.

Be sure both the Speech and the Sound Control Panels are set for the mic.
