Hi,
since some hours I try to get a PDF distilled from FreeHand. The problem is: no PDF printer. I reinstalled the Adobe Acrobat Pro package twice from the original CD - but it is just a drag & drop install so it won't help. Neither Distiller nor Acrobat find it necessary to install that printer once they are started...
I could'n find it anywhere in my old system (ya, I recently made a fresh install, moving my old OSX into "previous systems".
On the Adobe Websites it seems I can only get old versions of it, for OS9.
I moved everything that looked like a PPD or printer in my Library/Printers but Print Center won't recognize it... man, it was so easy before. Any ideas?
Ah, PS: I reinstalled cause I hoped the programs would forget my serial number and start a installation process. But - they DIDN'T FORGET it. I dunno what file to delete so maybe I can type it in manually again and have a chance for an installer...

..which is sub-optimum in a number of ways.
To ressurect the Adobe PDF printer, you need to look at one of the files on the installer CD. I can't remember what it is called - it's one of the text files. Maybe 'late news' or something like that.
Anyway, in that file there are instructions as to what to do. You have to go into Terminal and delete a file. I'm not at work now, so I am doing this from memory. If you can't find the instructions I mean, I can look it up in the morning.

It's in the ReadMe file which is installed in the Acrobat folder:
Re-installing a deleted Adobe PDF printer
When you install Acrobat, the Adobe PDF printer is created automatically in the Print Center. Here are the steps to re-install the Adobe PDF printer if it is accidentally deleted:
-Exit Acrobat and/or Distiller if running.
-Do one of the following to become "root" user:
-a. Log off the Mac OS and log back in as "root".
-b. Open the Terminal application and log in as "root'.
(If you do not have a "root" login, see Mac Help for instructions to create the "root" user).
-If you just logged in as "root", then open the Terminal application.
-Delete this file (from UNIX): /usr/libexec/cups/backend/pdf
-Log off as "root" and log back in with your user name and password (or any user with Adminstrator privileges).
-Restart Acrobat. You will be prompted for your Admin password and/or your Acrobat serial number.
Your Adobe PDF printer should now be re-created and listed in the Print Center.
My note: you don't really need to login as 'root'. Just go into Terminal and delete the file with the 'sudo' command which gives you temporary root privileges.
This has worked for me a couple of times. I hope it works for you.

Hey Phil, thanks for your effort - but it dosn't work. I found the file, deleted it and started acrobat anew - the file was simply there again (I am used to root user, su and sudo commands, so no problem).
I talk about acrobat 6 btw. Maybe I must delete, log off for Acrobat to remember my account, log in and then start it up? Hmmm...

Well, this is for Acrobat 6. It certainly worked for me. Maybe your problem is something else.
I would expect the file to be recreated when Acrobat 6 started, if it did not find a file there, so that bit does not surprise me. I was quite sure this would solve your problem, however. Anyone else like to come in here?
