Can someone please explain exactly how the new product activation feature of Macromedia MX2004 actually works?

We have a 10 user license here at work, and according to Macromedia each license can be installed on 2 computers, so I installed it at home and entered the serial number, however at the time I wasnt connected to the internet, but it took the serial and is working fine.

so what does that mean for product activation? will Flash "phone home" at some later date whn I am connected to the internet?

just wondering thats all....

I believe you have to complete the registration process in order to fully license the software. You can run in demo mode for 30 days, but will have to re-enter the serial later and go thru the registration process.

IIRC multiuser licenses do not need authorization from "home".

They don't do the 'lock serial to this computer' thing that the single user ones do, but they will attempt to 'phone home' to check that the serial is 100% valid and hasn't already been used multiple times.
There is going to be a problem with some of Macromedia's serial no's. Someone on the Win side created a serial genarator that created 100% working Macromedia MX2003 numbers (Mac & Win numbers are the same). These even worked when the app phoned home, that copy was then autherized to work on that computer by the Macromedia server, and the serial was marked as 'in use'. The problem is that these are 'real' serial numbers that are being used up by 'pirates' using this genarator. The problem is that it's likely that there will be genuine boxed versions of the app with the same numbers that have allready been used by the people using the genarator, so the people with these numbers are going to get the 'This number is invalid' message with there correct number. It could be a big problem for Macromedia.

Thanks for the correction
