Hello,
Now that my friends also has iTunes, how do we share our songs to each other?
Thanks,

iTunes sharing is on the same network only, and is meant for personal use only. All the computers need to be running iTunes 4.1, and have sharing enabled in the preferences. Then, it just works.

You can do it if you set up a VPN...

What the nerd community most often fail to realize is that all features aren't equal. A well implemented and well integrated feature in a convenient interface is worth way more than the same feature implemented crappy, or accessed through a annoying interface.

I'm having trouble sharing my songs. I have iTunes 4.1 installed on my powerbook, and on my desktop pc. Share entire library is on for both computers, as is look for shared music. My Mac can't see my Windows music, nor can my pc see my Mac music. On my Mac, I can do a connect to server and access my files on my pc, and I can see my Mac on my pc in network neighborhood, so both computers are on the same network. Anyone have any ideas how to fix this?
P.S. Anyone else find iTunes for Windows a pretty fast program? Seems much faster than my powerbook when scrolling and overall much snappier. Nice job Apple

Are you on the same subnet on both machines? What's the IPs?
I find it a bit more sluggish on my Thinkpad P3/700mhz than on my TiBook 500, but most PC people seem to have 200Ghz Pentium 7s, so I suppose it is if you have remotely new kit...
It's freaky seeing iTunes on Windows though..

My PB's IP is 192.168.0.101, the PC is 192.168.0.102, so they are on the same subnet. I can also share other files between the two, and I suppose I could drag the music from my Mac to my pc if I wanted to, but I kind of just wanted to get this streaming thing to work. Almost everyone else says its super easy, and it looks that way, it just hasn't worked for me yet. There's gotta be something simple I'm missing, I just can't find it yet.
Well my pc is 2.26ghz, and my 12"pb is 867mhz. I know I should expect an improvement on the pc, but truthfully almost everything else I do seems faster on my pb, so I wasn't expecting much from iTunes for windows speed wise.

Strange.. Do you have a firewall set up on either machine? I'm not sure what ports Rendezvous uses, to be honest. Good luck, anyway.

I had a firewall initially on both computers, but have turned them off since then. I'm still having problems. I'm too tired to think straight anyway, I think I'll try it again tomorrow. I appreciate the help though, I'm sure I'll get it working sooner or later.

Plus, the iTunes application has to be open on both machines in order to share music--you just can't tell iTunes to share your library, the application has to be open in order to do it...

Yup, iTunes was updated on my Mac, plus iTunes is open on my PC and Mac. I've been fooling around a little bit, and I still can't get it to work. Again, I can access my shared pc files on my powerbook, and my pc can access my Mac files. I've double and triple checked to ensure that sharing is on with both computers, and I'm stumped. Firewalls are off, I'm guessing it's just a problem with iTunes. The new iTunes versions have been out for a single day, I'm sure there's a few bugs that remain. If anyone has any other ideas, I'm all ears.

I haven't been able to get it to work with my VPN yet. I have iTunes running on my PC and Mac at home. When I establish a VPN session to my home network from my work PC, I'm given an IP addy, and since I'm using WINS, I can resolve hostnames on my network. However, my iTunes at work is unable to find either of my home machines. My home machines are able to see each other properly.
Are we certain it can work thru a VPN?

I'm trying to get my four roommates' PCs set up with iTunes and have run into a little snag. Since it is so late I've started with the only roommate who is still up, and he is running Windows 2000. When we're both running iTunes with sharing on, my TiBook can see his playlist and play his music, but his PC can't see that I am also sharing. Both of us have Look for Shared Music and Share Music selected.
I've looked through the Apple KBase but it's a little sparse right now as iTunes for Windows is still young. Any ideas?

This is almost the exact situation with my friend downstairs (on the same network). Everyone can see his computer in the iTunes "source" window, but his library never loads when you click on it. He can play our libraries with no problem.
