I wonder why Apple named it Safari instead of iBrowse. iBrowse seems kind of catchy with the reference to eyebrows and eyesight and so forth. Dunno if this has been discussed before or not, seeing as how I'm mostly a mac newbie.

eye-browse would just be baaad. I would not use Safari if it was named "iBrowse" ... no matter how good it is.
Safari is ok at best. Something more sophisticated would have been better.

Eeh, I rather like the name Safari. It has a good ring to it. Better than Camino or iCab.

Hmm ... I never really though about it till this post was made. Maybe it's a play off of OS X and Explorer. After all, what does an explorer do? Goes on safaris and sees jaguars, cheetahs, and panthers.
OK, really dumb. I know. But it makes since to my twisted brain

When Safari first came out I said to myself "Oh! Jaguar, Safari. Cool"

So you won't be using this, then.

Isn't there a Beach Boys song called "Surfin' Safari"? Well, we "surf" the 'net, don't we? Safari is a fine name, as far as I see it.

Safari sounds perfect for Apple's browser. It sounds adventerous, as if you're going on an adventure on the Web. A name like iBrowse, iWeb, or anything else just sounds really stupid. I'd choose IE over a dumb name like that. But if a peice of software was really well written, would you be resistant to use it because of its name? Safari kicks ass! Viva Safari!

After speaking with some "folks" after the MacWorld 2003 January conference, they said very candidly that's where it came from. In fact, I think they played the song "Surfin' Safari" before the keynote started as they were letting everyone in. Anywho, you surf the web, so you are surfin' in Safari.

To summarize:
1) Beach Boys Surfin' Safari -- surfing the web
2) Safari is an adventure a la MS Explorer
3) Safari goes along with Cheetahs, Panthers, and Jaguars
4) It's a jungle out there
Any others? Seems like an apt name.
