have some files that play in windows media player 9 on a pc, but won't play on a mac in anything (tried vlc, mplayer, wmp etc).

Guessing it's wmv3 format.

Any solutions?

Cheers,

J.

There is no Windows Media 9 Player for the Mac. Microsoft sucks like that.

It's good to always read the entire post...

The only solution I can think of is VPC, but the playback may be very bad.

Microsoft has said publicly that they will release Windows Media 9 for Mac. That was just a few weeks ago:

I've been pissed for a while that we don't have that latest codec. How long has v9 been out?

Second, why does WMP suck so bad? One window open, App quits when you close the window, same with Real.

Because of both of those, I rarely grab WMV clips, so I gotta ask... is the quality THAT GOOD? I mean damn, to hear tell, it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. So is it?

It's not a quality thing for me. I didn't know they were wmv files until I'd downloaded them (british tv series). I would normally run away screaming from any wmv files.

I doubt it would work well in vpc, even on a 1Ghz powerbook.

Just have to wait for mp9, or at least a codec for vlc, which would be much more preferable.

Cheers,

J.

On the mac side, I doubt it's the user's decision to pick wmv. Sometimes content we want to watch is only available in that format. I have these files and all I can do is wait until M$ releases WiMP9 for OSX, which they announced.
