iTunes: Store classical music grouped by composer, like in a record store?

I guess this is impossible, right?
I would like to store classical records by composer, not by artists.
Let's say I have a collection with 50 Bach CDs (which I have). I would like to browse a tree called "J. S. Bach" instead of 50 different interpreters.
Just sent my wish to Apple Feedback. Your opinions?

Smart Playlists?
Assuming you have your tags correct? Nice thing about iTunes is you can bulk edit one field without effecting the rest, if you need to add them.

Smart Playlists are the way to go.
Personally I store the performer under "Composer" and put the Composer as the artist. Probably confusing to anyone else but it works for me. I put "guest" artists under composer as well.

Like clarkgoble, I usually put the composer's name under "Artist." Then I might use a slash to identify the conductor/performer, e.g. Bach/Marriner.
As someone else said, don't forget that you can make changes to the library information in batches - just select all the tunes you want to change and hit Apple/I. I spent weeks doing one at a time before I realized this.

Well, with smart playlists I can do a playlist for "Bach" (composer = Bach). Then I would just get a full list of every title, but I wouldn't have a tree to browse.
I would like to browse (tree directory) with the Apple + J menu like that:
Genre | Composer | Artist | Title (in classical)
Genre | Artist | Title (other genres)
|

I've been thinking of that, too. I just seems WRONG to me, putting correct info into wrong places just for search purposes. Normally, a DB should do that for me.

1) in the "New smart play list" dialogue you can add search parameters by clicking on the + and set each additional parameter.
or
2) you can set the little search dialogue at the top right for composer.
then (which ever of the above you use) click on the top of the Album column in the listing to sort by album.
Right now these are about as close as you can get.
Of course some enterprising person could write a shareware plugin or applescript to do this.

Thanks, I've already tried out 1) and 2). The results are there, but I'm missing the feeling of browsing (tree structure). I sent a feedback to Apple's iTunes team.
