My elderly father has left me with the remnants of a once prosperous small camera business. He proposed an offer of selling the items he has on eBay on in return for a full home office to do my work in.

Stupid me...

Now I need to take inventory of his photo equipment. I am unaware of any decent inventory programs that run in OSX. I have tried Versiontracker and am willing to give "Inventory Tracker Plus" a shot. However, what are any other options. If I purchase Filemaker Pro, would it be hard to build my own inventory tracking application?

Thanks

Depending on how complicated a solution you want, FileMaker Pro can be very easy to setup. Pre-made solutions have the benefit of steering you in directions that people have found to work in the past, sometimes this is a good thing, but sometimes it means you just can't use your own creativity.

What are you looking to get out of this system?

Go to sourceforge.net and search for "inventory". There are a ton of free, web-based solutions to this problem. With OSX, you just install MySQL from the package, install PHP from the package, then drop the files in a folder, edit a config file, and away you go.

I went for the filemaker demo. I am very impressed that even a newbie like me got this off the ground and running fairly quickly. I am now up and running and will purchase this next week. I feel it is a very strong program and works with my basic needs perfect.

Highly recommended!
