Adobe Premiere 6.5 not working properly. Help?

	I have premiere 6.5 and when I set my ezquest 120gb external HD as the scratch disk premiere freezes. I am using a Canon DV camera and it captures fine to the internal main HD, but for some reason it wont capture to the external. I have it connected to the mac firewire and not the pci firewire so there should be not firewire compatibility problems. What the deal?
