New mac user here,

How do I open .mpkg files with stuffit? I get a "The installer cannot be completed. The postflight script was either not executable or not readable"

The particular .mpkg file is an update for a sound hub that I need to get working. How do I unstuffit the .mpkg file?

thank in advance....

You open .mpkg files with Installer (in /Applications/Utilities).
From that error message, it sounds like you expanded the .sit file with Stuffit 8. There was a big bug in that version of Stuffit. You will need to either update to Stuffit 8.1, or get a "repair" script from Aladdin and use it on each unstuffed file/folder.

Alternatively, you could use Pacifist to extract the files from the package, although the shell scripts will not get run using this method (disclaimer: The version of Pacifist that is compatible with Panther is not available yet).

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

You don't use Stuffit, you should just be able to double-click on the file. Hopefully with Panther's new .zip function Stuffit will vanish into nonexistence.
