Posting for a friend so will try my best with second hand info.

She says her son's iMac (which only boots in X) will open Word for mac in classic but will not print. Says the printer is not selected. She has tried to install the driver into the classic sys. folder but the CD opens in X and will not let her do it.

How can she get the driver into the sys. folder so her son can print Word files from Classic?

Best I can do......help appreciated

Without more info on what kind of printer, etc, the best I can offer is that he try to open the document with AppleWorks (which should have been included with his iMac) and print it from there.

The newest AppleWorks can open Word docs, so that may be the easiest solution (again, without more info on what kind of printer he has).

Basically, he'll need to find an OS 9 installer for his printer, run it in Classic, and hope to heck it works. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't.

Or he could upgrade to Office v.X.

Just to make sure, since it says the printer isn't selected, have they tried selecting the printer in Chooser?

She says the printer is not available in the chooser (Classic) and that is why she needs to install the driver, to make the printer available to print in Classic.

Printer is Lexmark and all other printing in X and classis is OK with this printer.
