I archive my DVDs to divX and since updating QuickTime to 6.4 it crashes 3 seconds into every single one.

Whatup?

Why Divx if you're on a mac? Why not use something that doesn't have a sucky container like the 3ivx/.mov combo. Then you could also have AAC soundtrack.

Alex:

When I try to open my divx doctored MOVs I get some whack error in VLC (mp4: cannot create es for track (id 0x2)

Jacke:
What sort of format might you be referring to? Please, illuminate the ignorant!

Point is, it worked fine in QuickTime up to now, and with the newest version I get nada.

Have you tried the new Divx codec? They just released a new encoder/decoder.

I'm not much of one for Divx. The compression is stunning, but the things take an unbearably long time to make and then there are too many hoops to jump through to get them to play. If you're just archiving DVDs to your Mac, you might consider switching to mpeg-4 at one of the higher qualities. They scale well and are of course natively compatible with QT 6.4

Cheers

I was thinking of the encoding. If you're encoding on a Mac you'd be better of using 3ivx for video and AAC for audio.

I have really no idea what is causing the problems, but you could try the Quicktime 6.3 reinstaller. I found the link at xlr8yourmac. A good resource for stuff like that.

The good thing with VLC is that you don't need to doctor your DivX movies anymore. But if you already have, then it can't help you...

re-installed QT 6.3 and I'm happy as a clam ) - clams don't have eyes

it's nice to know you can rely on the greater mac community and especially the macnn group to help out when you need it.

And don't forget that as of Divx 5.0.6, you don't need to doctor files at all anymore.
