Is there a patch or something available that will enable computers using 98 or ME to use iTunes? I realize these usually took a while to come out on Mac software, but with all those Windows users I figured someone must have done something by now.

It's a 5 year old OS.. So it's no surprise that it isnt supported.
Apple barely even support their own 5 year old OS (OS 9 etc). So it's unlikely they will support anyone elses.. Just would not make sense.

The worst thing about having a failing memory is..... no, it's gone.

I doubt very much that you could simply patch iTunes to make it run on Windows 98. It's requirement to run on 2k/XP is probably due to it utilising Windows API calls that are not present in Win98. So in order to "patch" it all such calls would have to be removed and reimplemented from scratch. Something I can't imagine anyone bothering to do. Grrr is right I'm afraid, it's time for an upgrade (you won't regret it, XP is far superior to 98).

Somebody out there is claiming it installs on ME, so who knows it might run on 98 too. I don't know about the iPod or burning, but the claim is that the jukebox and store parts ran on ME. YMMV.
Personally, I think it's masochism running 98/ME, but that's just me.

I kinda figured there was no way- but it was worth a shot. Here is the situation: my roomate and I are throwing a party, and since he owns the speakers we are using his crappy Windows 98 box (as opposed to my G5). I tried to at least download iTunes since Winamp sux, but what can you do?

Connect the speakers to your G5?

Winamp is excellent. You're just an applefan boy. Ya and why don't you hook up your little G5 to his bigbad speakers so that you guys can run iTunes from your mac which will sound just like winamp.

We couldn't have done that since my computer is way too far away- and he's being an ass and won't let me put my tower in his room (we have a suite).
And my problem with WinAmp is that I edited out all of the intros to the music on iTunes (I don't even know if you can do that on WinAmp) and WinAmp couldn't read my edits. Also, when making a playlist on Winamp, if you happen to double click an mp3 track it erases your entire current playlist. This became a problem because it was very inconvenient trying to listen to songle tracks to make sure they are quality for our list. Blah- I'm sure the same job can be done on Winamp, it's just that iTunes does it so much easier and faster.
