OK so I am having trouble connecting to ANY P2P programs whatsoever on OS X. I have tried Acquisition, XNap, eDonkey, Poisoned, SoulseekX, etc.
I would like to avoid the morality issue here as well. I download music, and if I like it I buy it.
The confusing thing is, all the PCs in the same dorm building can access Kazaa Lite, which apparently uses port 21, and if not that then port 80. I have tried changing ports on the Mac programs but it does not work. This is really frustrating as I am not in the States and wish to keep up to date with some TV shows and music I cannot get here, and P2P is one of my only options.
Anything I can do to get my Mac downloading music and movies? Or am I stuck being one of the only ones without P2P access?
Thanks!

Try BitTorrent. I'm able to download stuff using it despite the fact that my school has a fairly rigid firewall. If it doesn't work out of the box, try changing the ports that it uses (in the Preferences). I have it set up to use 1024-1030 right now.
A good place to look for Torrents for TV shows and movies is suprnova.org. Good luck.

Thanks for the tip, but I tried BitTorrent as well and it will not connect.
I wouldnt mind if this was a general ban on P2P, but the fact that PC users can use Kazaa without a problem is frustrating. Anything else to try?

Is it possible that you have a firewall running on your Mac that's blocking the programs? Go to terminal and then type this
sudo su - (switches you to root user)
ipfw -f flush (flushes all your firewall rules)
now try the P2P apps you want.

Tried that now and still nothing. XNap now lets me connect to one server through port 1720, but the server has almost nothing to download.
Very frustrating
