I just got this email and I am away from my mac (work PC Box). ANyone have any possible fixes for her?
I "borrowed" Office for OS X from work and would like to use it. I can open excel, powerpoint, anything else, but if i want a normal word document, word "unexpectedly" quits. I'm beginning to wonder if this is b/c i've "borrowed" it, but then why would everything
else work? Any ideas? I've poked around the web a little, but honestly get a little bored and give up probably too soon.
Thanks.

Why even ask this here?
I have a good solution: Go buy the product.

Have her uninstall using the uninstaller provided on the CD. Then reinstall office. MS PID checker will cause the entire system to not work if it detects another copy of the same license running on the network. There is also an error message that says that there are two copies of the same license running on the network.
I would strongly suggest buying legal software.
I am guessing this thread will be locked very soon.

Thanks. I talked to her and it's actually a multi user copy from her workplace. There should be 2 free licenses, would being on a different network (ie home) make a difference. Is it specific to the network location?
Sorry to cause problems. Feel free to lock this thread if the follow up is out of line.

I'm not familiar with MS's multi-licesnse policy for Macintosh. If it is anything like MSDN for windows, she should be able to use Office on or off the network. Afterall, there are probably those who have Office installed on the laptops which are taken off of the network from time to time.

I can't remember the details, but I do remember that Office X had some sort of odd crash the would happen on opening the application when it was first introduced. It was solved by turning off the Project Gallery. You can do this by double clicking on an word doc so that it opens Word instead of double-clicking the app icon.
And has she updated to the most recent release? That might take care of it.

Download all the necessary updates to bring it to v. 10.1.5 and see if that works.
