Disk Warrior 3.0 stalls out at Step 8 (Verify Directory Information) when run under Panther on a non-startup disk. I've tried it with journaling on and off. Same result. Watch symbol at step 8 then goes to blank report screen. Anyone using it successfully. Did upgrade from 10.2.8 on Power Mac G4 MDD Dual 1.25.

First, I'd wait for a note from DiskWarrior noting they're tested/compatible with Panther.

Second, I'd recommend against running things like DiskWarrior on a regular basis. It's really not for "proactive" fixing of things -- use it when stuff is broken.

I get exactly the same thing after performing an "upgrade installation" of panther from 10.2.8 on Quicksilver G4 933 1024 RAM. The following console message: rm: /System/Library/ExtensionsDiskWarriorATADriver.kext: No such file or directory

Also, when I try to run the hardware tests on both internal drives screen where report usually shows remains blank

This is a known issue. You cannot run DW3 from within Panther. You need to boot up from either the DW CD or a BootCD disk that has DW on it.

Perhaps it is to developers, but I have searched for it in a lot of forums and found no mention of this known incompatibility. Care to enlighten us as to where it was noted?

I am very curious to know if this a problem with Panther, journaling (I read somewhere that DW disables journaling in Jaguar) or File Vault. Some users of Panther are working fine with DW while booted into Panther. Any ideas?

Got the following from Alsoft about Diskwarrior 3.0 and Panther:

DiskWarrior v3.0 will rebuild the directory of a disk running Mac OS X
10.3 when started under Mac OS X 10.2.x. The best way to achieve this is
to start the computer from the DiskWarrior CD or another media source
running Mac OS X 10.2.x and run DiskWarrior from there.

DiskWarrior v3.0 will not rebuild the directory of a disk when started
under Mac OS X 10.3.

We hope to release a new version of DiskWarrior in mid November. This
new version of DiskWarrior will run under Mac OS X 10.2.x and later,
including 10.3.

Also, DiskWarrior v3.0 will not disable journaling.

If you have any additional questions please feel free to contact us.

Be advised though that some persons have reported that DiskWarrior trashed their Panther drive when booting off the DiskWarrior CD. Others have said they have had no problems.

No offence but have you ever used DW? Thats exactly how it works. Its all about prevention.
You don't wait until your Directory is fragmented to 25% before running it.Think before you post dude.
