boot from the cd-rom and repair the disk AND repair permissions.

perhaps that will help.

I did a clean install--formatted the drive--and have no problems.

Do you have any plugins installed like simbl or saft? Those do not work with panther yet so if you delete it, it will start normally again. I had this problem myself.

Go to HD>library>application support>SIMBL>plugins

if the saft bundle is there you need to just delete it.

Anything else. I still can't get Safari to function like the original poster. I don't have either of those plugins and/or extensions?

Have you seen my pants?

Safari crashed three times for me as well. Twice when selecting (highlighting) text to copy, once when launching.

I cleared my caches and repaired permission. Rebooted and so far so good.

log in as a different user (create one if need be) and see if it happens with a clean user pref file. if it works fine, then it is something in your home/library/

this is what happened

there was a question mark icon in the dock. when i moused over it, it said it was safari. so i assume this means that my computer still has some things related to safari on it. i just don't know where to look for them, or what they might be.

have you tried just going into your applications folder and launching it from there? a ? in the dock indicates a bad alias (shortcut) to the program.

the thing is, is that i deleted safari all together after a point. so it shouldn't be on my computer at all.

I've had the same problem and can no longer use Safari at all. Well, I'm getting to know Firebird better, though it's much slower to launch...
