Since I got my new 12 inch pbook RDC hasn't worked properly. Whenever I try to connect to an XP machine on the same lan I get "the client could not connect to the remote computer." I have checked the XP machine, remote connections are allowed. I have tried connecting via ip and computer name both give the same error. I have also restarted both machines numerous times. Any ideas?

Did you reinstall the RDC client? or just grab it from your app folder?

I always connect through IP, are you sure the IP of the windows machine hasn't changed?
Sometimes when I get that error it's because my router reset and the IP's have changed, doesn't hurt to check.

Only XP professional is supported not the normal ( Home edition ) version of XP ....

There are 5 versions of windows:

Windows XP Professional ( Blue box )

Windows XP Home Edition ( Green box )

Windows XP Media Center Edition

Windows XP Tablet PC Edition

Windows XP 64-Bit Edition

ohh i see what you mean. yes it is professional.

i think the issue might be a permission or service on the xp box but everything seems right. i wish ms had better documentation on it.

I have found a support group on the microsoft website which should be able to help you, I'm sorry that I can't help you more directly, I have never gotten RDC to work and I have no need for it anymore...

http://groups.google.com/groups?grou...public.mac.rdc

The group is run by Google but supported by Microsoft..

Just to check -- can you connect to your WinXP box (using its IP address) via Terminal Services from (a) itself, and (b) another XP box, if you have one available? The client app on Windows is "mstsc.exe", by the way, if you don't have it available as an icon.

Check to see that the XP machine you're trying to connect to has no firewall software running. I had some ports blocked by mine, once I disabled the firewall (which was OK for me as I'm typically behind a hardware firewall) it connected fine.

Good luck.

Actually, that is just usenet, not run by google at all. Google just provides web access to the usenet group...

All glory to the hypnotoad.

well i have narrowed the issue down to something on the xp box. i can connect to a 2000 server from the osx laptop. and from the server i can't connect to the xp pro box. it says that it is busy. i have tried restarting all the remote services and disabling and renabling the remote access. there is not firewall software on any of the machines.

hmm.
