Running Itunes 4.1 on OS 10.3 and updated Ipod to 2.1. (This also occurred on 10.2.8 and ipod 2.01) When I go to open Itunes when the ipod is connected, I get the message "Itunes has detected a software update for ipod... would you like to install now" If I choose "ok", the ipod updater software appears, unmounts the ipod and gives me the message "A single ipod was detected, but it must be mounted on the desktop for this operation to work" and an ok button. Thus, the update software will not work. If I unplug and replug the ipod, the software updater closes. Repeat ad nauseum to no effect.

Is there any way to tell itunes that I already -have- the software up to date? The way it works now the update message appears every time I open itunes and it's really annoying.

Thanks.

- joel
