I installed Quicktime 6.4 (registration was okay, I have pro version). I picked up the MPEG2 Playback Component from Apple back on June 13th and just reinstalled after I noticed 6.4 wasn't playing my m2v movies I had archived. Has anyone run into this? Anyone know if Apple is aware of this/support for this issue?

Apple has the MPEG2 download for the 6.4 version of quicktime. Try that, it should work.

I went to the download page and users are required to have a Final Cut Pro 4 or DVD Studio 2 serial number. Once I discovered this I went to my Apple account. The only serial listed was Quicktime 6 Pro, none for MPEG2 Component. Then I remembered that it was just a link that downloaded a .dmg to my desktop, but I digress. Putting in these required fields on this update completely cuts anyone who purchased the MPEG2 Component out of the loop. I tried putting in "found" serial numbers for the required field but returned as bad user (figured it wouldn't work, worth a shot though... not to mention the irony if it went through).

I'm in the same boat. After I upgraded to 6.4, MPEG2 playback is FUBAR in both Jag and Panther. The only options I've seen from searching the web are:
Download from Apple: As noted above, stupidly requires FCP or DVDSP serial. I don't have those. Nevertheless, I bought the component and would like it to work without spending another thousand dollars on FCP.
Re-download from account: My account at the time was my iTools ID, which was sacked and lost after the great .Mac revolution, so I have a different account.
Luckily, I'm anal and have every e-mail I ever received, including my receipt for this. I'll write Apple and see what they can do. I'll report back with results.

MPEG 2 playback has worked fine for me. I'm running 10.3, download the MPEG 2 codec from the link in "Purchased Software" link at the Apple store. Installed the package for Quicktime 6.4. I would think this should work for you guys as well.
