connecting to someones computer who is 1200 miles away and on an Airport network.
I would like to be able to help my parents when they get stuck, it would be so much easier to actually see what they are doing and even fix it myself.
Remote Desktop seems to be more for the business/school environment. And I don't know if the Airport will let me through anyways......

It will work. I'm assuming you both have DSL (at least)? Finding their IP may be a bit difficult, and it's gonna be pretty slow.
Have 'em set the screen resolution to 800x600 before you start, it will be faster.

Hehe. That's pretty good.
Yep Remote Desktop is perfect for this sort of application. I show my parents how to do things from the comfort of my house 2000 miles away. No problem.
You will probably want to connect in black and white versus color. That will make it much faster than changing the screen res. In general, it is easier for you if their screen resolution is less than yours so you don't have to scroll around too much.
Timbuktu has a cool feature that lets you shrink or constrain the remote desktop into a resizable window.
