The platform independent Java app jTunes 4 sort of actually works. It's very buggy, but does accept music and play it. And besides formatting issues, etc., it looks almost identical to iTunes, even directly copying the icons, etc. It even senses my shared iTunes for Windows library (although it can't display anything in it).

I wonder when Apple gets irritated and shuts them down.

Since it's a direct copy, I'd say Apple will shut them down.

Well, it has already been a couple of months.

Maybe Apple isn't aware jTunes4 yet.

Other than being a copy of course, it's really slow (especially when moving the main window), this button-hoping madness is annoying, and what's the point? I'm not one to shoot down freeware, but this just doesn't seem worthwhile at all...

Will be posted by Horsepoo!!! in the immediate future:
You're right...there is no point. iTunes is free. And they're copying it right down to the pixel.

But iTunes has the iTMS and jTunes doesn't.

Other than being a cute project, I see absolutely no sense or point to it.
The point is that it will run on any platform, not just Windows or Mac OS.

Man that looks like a lot of work - why don't the developers just break down and buy Macs?

Hell, they don't even have to have a Mac anymore!

Edit: I got beat to the punch...

Ok, but that still doesn't justify why it should look like iTunes. People might see jTunes on Linux and think it's an Apple product because they've seen it or have it on their PC. And if jTunes crashes or messes things up, it might make Apple look bad.

I'm sure the programmers couldn't care less. It's up to Apple to shut them down should they so desire.

Anyways, it's not as if Linux users are generally your Joe Schmoe types who can't tell their OS from Windows. It's likely that if jTunes were to get to good enough beta status, the people who would actually be downloading it for say Linux and using would be those who understand what sourceforge is.
