This post in honor of ZackS.

1. Click the following link,
enable multiple iTunes

2. Press the green 'Run' button.

err... i was fixing it. try again.

Oh, well the script won't appear to have done anything, but it changes the setting that prohibits more than one iTunes from running at the same time.

Run the script, then try running multiple iTunes.

thanks that second time it worked. But one question my music isn't showing up on the other's iTunes when music sharing is on. Is that normal? thanks

Uh, since Apple obviously purposely disabled multiple instances of iTunes, I wouldn't expect anything to work right when you're using it like that.

I'm reasonably sure that the reason two instances of iTunes running simultaneously was diallowed was so that you didn't have some person playing loud music with no way to turn iTunes off.

Of course ideally iTunes would run a single instance in both user environments. But I believe that the way Apple designed the UI aspects to run makes that very difficult. They unfortunately didn't design OSX with user switching in mind.

Still it makes sense to have the engine of iTunes separate from everything else and just respond to UI messages. That may be difficult to add easily with hte current code base though. So this appears to be a sensible step. I personally think a better solution would be to have iTunes top when you switch users. But that's me.

And how is that prevented if the second person can't launch a second instance of iTunes?
Nasrudin sat on a river bank when someone shouted to him from the opposite side: "Hey! how do I get across?" "You are across!" Nasrudin shouted back.

It does stop when you switch users. I was listening to some music, and wanted to log in as root to move some stuff around the System folder, and as soon as the login window came up, the music stopped. When I logged out of root and brought my account back up, my music was paused at the point I switched.
