I am still using Jaguar and have just one quick question with regards to removing apps from your system. I am a recent switcher from Windows and I know that you have to uninstall software when you want to get rid of it. But there doesn't seem to be such a function on the Mac. If a program (like DVD Studio Pro 2, for example) actually installs on your system (as opposed) to just unstuffing into a folder that you can paste anywhere, is there anything special you need to do to get rid of it? Or can you just delete it off your hard drive?

Thanks for your help.

I think the only case where uninstallers are used are for 3rd-party hacks (such as APE). For apps that simply reside in your Applications folder though, I think trashing will always be enough.

Yep, just drag the application to the trash to delete it. If you want to delete *everything* you can search for the program's name in the search bar and delete the program's preference files. I personally keep them around since A) they take up very little space and B) if I ever decide to re-install the application it will auto-magically remember its settings.

Shameless plug: If something was installed by a .pkg installer and you want to know what it did, you can examine the package with Pacifist and find out.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!
