I did a search and found this old thread, but it was old and didn't really have any resolution.

I am an avid Fantasy Sports participant, and consequently rely heavily on "StatTracker", Yahoo's addon service that lets you see points accumulate as the game develops. The person in the thread I described didn't seem to be able to even launch the applet; I can launch it, but it freezes within minutes of loading. It really sucks.

Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a solution, other than running IE for OS 9 in classic mode? Because that's a sucky option, in my opinion.

Sorry not resolution but I get problems with pages containing some sort of java/javascript. At work we use a timesheet application that works through a browser and we have access to our email via a web interface too. Both don't work (totally) in Safari and I have to resort to IE. But then there's also applications taht don't work well or at all in IE but okay in Safari. This is really annoying having to use two separate browers. I was suspecting could it be the Java JM that OS X has?

Or it could be that the developer is using JScript, not JavaScript or made other IE only 'features'.

And btw. JavaScript has absolutely nothing to do with Java.

They can however interact. And if I recall correctly from discussion in bugzilla this is broken since Jaguar. I can't find the relevant bug any more, so I might be wrong.
Nasrudin sat on a river bank when someone shouted to him from the opposite side: "Hey! how do I get across?" "You are across!" Nasrudin shouted back.

Well, regardless of Javascript's unrelated nature with respect to Java, woudl I be incorrect to say that the Java applet that loads in IE is using the same system resources as Safari? My understanding is that Java support is part of OS X, not a "plug-in" if you will for either browser..

?

LiveConnect was only shortly available in Mozilla/Netscape.

The only browser supporting on Mac today is NS4.x in Classic.

This is a browser feature - not a Java feature.

IE uses the Java 1.3.1 plug-in - Safari uses the Java 1.4.1 plug-in.

Perhaps Java 1.3.1 is better at running MS JVM applets - or the applet has problems running in 1.4.1.

The good thing is that even MS tells developers not to use MS JVM anymore.
