I wiped my HD and did a fresh install of Panther on my Quicksilver 733, and installed Office X. But when I try to do the 10.1.2 update, the installer can't get past the "Gathering Information" stage -- I get the eternal spinning beachball. I tried reinstalling Office, but get the same thing. Does anyone have any suggestions?

BTW, Office updates installed fine on my iBook.

Well, nevermind. After about 10 minutes of inactivity the installer finally started. It was odd, because I have Diskspy so I can see when there is HD activity, and there wasn't any for the whole time...

Are the installers VISE installers? If so the issue is iDisk or other network volumes - the installer's are searching all mounted volumes before performing the install or something like that... MacFixIt had an article about it a few days ago.

I believe it has something to do with "Network" in /

If you disc yourself from the network prior to running the installs, they go just fine.

someone confirm this so it's not just me?
