I've been using outlook 2001 for exchange mail for years here at work. I upgraded my Tibook to 10.3 with no problems. But now I just upgraded my new G5, Outlook can no longer connect to server - that's the message I get when I launch the app and after I enter my login info. And then the app quits itself.

I've reinstalled the app, no luck. I've repaired permissions (the app had some difficulty installing, saying it couldn't write to disk). But eventually it installed. Please help if possible, I'm screwed otherwise. This megacompany doesn't support macs on the network, so I'm on my own.

I personally think it has something to do with the G5 and 10.3's classic environment. I guess I could wipe the drive and reinstall the original system, but I'd rather not.

Any ideas?

Same problem; here are a few more details...
Outlook will run on our G5s if they are running 10.2.
Outlook will run on G5s if it is running off of an external drive.
Using Exchange Server 5.5, so OWA or Mail.app not viable options.
Help!? Anyone?

If you have Entourage that works with 10.1.5 update. And why not the Mail app (iPerfer calling it that instead of mail.app?) In panther it supports exchange.

Mail.app and Entourage require Exchange Server 2000 in order to have access to Global Address books, etc.

Mail.app can access Global Address Books?... I was under the impression that it couldn't. Hm. Our institution relies on those stupid address books, calendars, and personal folders. Ugh. Makes IT support a nightmare. We're stuck with Classic until Entourage works better.

Actually Mail.app uses the Address Book app which syncs with the Exchange Server 2000 via LDAP.

1. Go for a preference hunt and eliminate all Outlook prefs, both in System 9 folder and the various Library/Preferences directories.
2. Move your "Personal Folders" and "Personal Address Books" files to your Documents folder.
3. Nuke your Outlook Folder and its contents.
4. Use Disk Utility to create a Read-Write disk image named "Outlook Volume".
5. Drag the Outlook folder from its instalation CD to the "Outlook Volume"
6. Run Outlook to recreate your profile. Add your Personal Folders using the Add Services pane of the Profile Properties window (Or whatever it's called.)
7. Goto System Preferences's Accounts pane. On your account add the "Outlook Volume" to your startup items.
