I would make a nice utility that would check the date, and as it came closer to holidays, it would switch my desktop pictures, hard drive icons, etc. and make them appropriate to the holiday. Anyone wanna give it a try???

Sounds easy enough to do that with Konfabulator. It's fairly easy to learn to write widgets for it. Since it uses JavaScript.. http://www.konfabulator.com
Or even an AppleScript can do it
