When I encode CD's in iTunes (192kbps AAC) about 15% of the songs get these cracking sounds with them (hear example file). I have error correction on in the preferences. Anybody knows what is it? I have a PowerMac 867 Dual G4 with Panther and iTunes 4.1.

Your CDs could very well be scratched. Try buying a new cd, leaving it all wrapped up and clean, bringing it home, and encoding it. Still get scratches? Check the dust level on the tray of your optical drive.

I have it with new and old CD's. My CD tray is pretty clean, so that shouldn't be the problem.
