All,

A strange thing happened to me today. I've always named my Computer "Martha," but today when I fired up the terminal the command line read:

jennifer:~ foster$

With foster being my home directory. Where is jennifer coming from? I just did a clean install of Panther, but I've never named anything Jennifer. And if nobody knows why that's there, how do I change it to Martha?

one cause of this is a dns server which hasn't updated properly, your mac will figure out it's hostname from the dns server....

the fix is fairly easy:
sudo hostname Martha

then relogin to your terminal

Thanks,

That worked perfectly. Weird about the DNS server though. If you have the time I'd love to learn what exactly is going on there with the funny name.
