I'm in 10.2.6 right now, decided to download Proteus 3 since i've heard good things about it. Haven't used proteus in about a year or two so i thought I'd see how much it's improved. Problem is, when I launch the app a screen comes up telling me I have a trial period and i click free trial. But no windows come up and the preferences item and other important items in the menus are greyed out. What gives? I might pay for it if i could at least try it in the first place!

Are you using 3.04? go back to 3.03. The new version has bugs in it. You can download the previous version from their site.

The issues with 3.04 only occur on Jaguar, and appear to be related to that version being compiled on Panther instead of Jaguar.

If you use 3.03 you should be fine, but you may want to remove your preferences (~/Library/Preferences/com.alientechnology.Proteus.plist and ~/Library/Application Support/Instant Messaging/*) before you use 3.03.
