Ever since I upgraded to panther (and IchatAV 1.0) My router needs special port settings to correctly connect with people. This would seem normal to anyone EXCEPT that when i had jaguar and the ichatav beta, I COULD file transfer, audio chat, video chat, whatever with ANYONE, no router settings, not even DMZ. I did not have to log into my router to get ichatAV to work. Now i have the newer version and panther and I'm having connection problems like crazy. I can solve them by making sure everyone i am chatting with has certain ports open or is DMZ, but this is annoying and not "apple easy".

What gives? Could this be a bug that will be corrected in an update?

No one ever said firewalls were "Apple-easy," and unfortunately for security reasons, they are quite necessary!

I'm skeptical that you even had it working without the proper ports open on your firewall with Jaguar and iChat AV beta. Are you sure you even had a firewall on at the time?

What firewall are you using? By using the term "DMZ," I assume that you must be using some third-party firewall box.

the "firewall" you are speaking of is my dlink router. No settings were changed between the install of panther and upgrade of ichatav 1.0 and 3 other people that I chat with had connection problems on their end after upgrading the same.

(for example they had problems connecting to other people as well and they had to configure their router to get ichat working again)

Odd...but I can tell you that having to open/configure your router/firewall ports for iChat AV is normal and to be expected because it sends traffic over specific ports. Companies and even users should have firewalls that increase security and block access to non-essential ports, limiting any possibility of internet users running exploits on open ports.

i mean that something changed in the full version. One thing i used to love about ichat was that you didnt need to configure the router to accept the right ports.

Or possibly, your built in firewall (ipfw, which I believe is now on by default) isn't set up to allow iChat yet. Check your security prefs pane (I think that's where you can set it up. it may be in sharing or internet also)

Interesting; filesharing with iChat through a firewall has always been a problem as far as I know.

From the Apple Knowledge Base:
"If you do not want to turn off firewall at the sending computer, a different file sharing service may be used instead of iChat."

Incidentally, you may already know this, but a dedicated Knowledge Base document exists on how to configure your firewall for iChat:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93208

Cheers,
