I have read all the posts rgarding this problem, however I still cannot get W98 to onstall. I startup the disk and I get the message "there is no OS installed" I insert the W98 disk and nothing happens. I tried downloading a W98 boot disk and made a mountable floppy withit inside and I keep getting the " non system disk error" message with it. Has anyone had any success installing W98 on VPC 6 out there? If o could you give me explicit directions how to do it or refer me to a site with instruction show to do it? Thanks a million, this is very frustrating.

Create a new drive image, start it up, let it complain no OS found. Shut it down. Insert 98 CD, let mount on Mac desktop. Start up empty drive, should "see" the 98 install CD.

Tried that already, still says no OS found. What do you mean by "empty drive"? I just can't seem to get VPC to recognize that there is a disk in the CDROM. I am using an 800 PB with OSX 10.2.8

I think you need to start from DOS. Since the Win98 CD is not bootable, it needs a boot loader or similar to get it to work.
I have no problem installing Win95, 98SE, 2K, and XP from the OEM CD under VPC 6.
I think you should have the DOS image with the VPC 6 package.

Yes I have it but it is not a fat32 system and win 98 won't install on it. I tried to download the emergency backup diskimage from the cennectix ftp site but I could not access the site. very frustrating.

If you have a retail 98 CD (not a restore CD from a PC) you don't need DOS bootloader.
Start the empty drive image you created, click on the CD icon in windowed mode, the 98 install should start if the CD is a full installer.
It is not any simpler.

I have a full installer CD and I still can not get it to work. I keep getting the same message "no OS installed."

Bill,
In your PC List, select "new." Follow steps and selections to create a 98 drive image. It will appear in PC List, select it and start it up. Black window will appear and say "no OS found." Shut it down. Insert 98 CD, let it appear in Mac desktop. Start up your 98 drive image, doesn't the CD icon below start blinking?
If not, try the same procedure just described, but insert 98 CD AFTER "no OS found," and CD icon should start blinking.
If not, be sure CD opens on Mac, maybe its dirty?
Try that exactly and report back!

I have tried that with no success. The cd image becomes active, but it does not blink and I still get the same message "no OS" The cd opens fine on my mac desktop though. Weird.
