I am new Mac user with a 2 day old G4 PB12. Safari crashes consistently. I am researching this problem via IE, as the Safari browser will not stay up and running long enough to research what is wrong with it! It will not open Hotmail- I have researched some forums and apparently there is some "patch" to make MS not be able to recognize that I am trying to open Hotmail via a competitor's (i.e.: Apple Safari) browser? WTF? Is this for real? If this is the truth then I am definately glad that I am walking the path of a "switcher". But, in the meantime, I need to find a browser (with tabs!) that will work on this PB. I am currently running Jaguar, as I am waiting for Panther to arrive via the upgrade program. Any ideas?

In the Safari application menu select reset Safari. Then quit it and go to <yourhomefolder>/Library/Caches and see if there are caches for Safari, WebFoundation, WebCore. Trash them. Then go to <yourhomefolder>/Library/Safari and see if there are icon caches. Trash them. Then go to <yourhomefolder>/Library/Preferences and trash the Safari preferences (com.apple.Safari.plist).
Then Safari will run fine.

If not download Mozilla, Firebird, or Camino. All three have tabs.

http://www.mozilla.org/

iCab and Opera also have tabs.

Post the crash log.

It should be in <yourhomefolder>/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/Safari.crash.log. If not you need to turn on crash logging in the preferences of the app Console in your Utilities folder. And then trigger a crash.
