Hi everyone

I'm thinking about adding additional information about artists (sidemen). I would like to use the "Comments" field in iTunes.

Example:

Title:
'Round Midnight

Artist:
Miles Davis

Album:
'Round About Midnight

Comments:
John Coltrane
Red Garland
Paul Chambers
Philly Joe Jones

Now, the "Comments" field seems to be huge, but I didn't find a way to enter the next line (see example). I've tried "Return" and "Enter" keys. Is there any way to enter multiple lines?

Thanks for your suggestions.

Copy and paste your multi-line text into the comments field.

What about holding the "Shift key" down while pressing "Enter"

No, that doesn't work. I tried "Shift" with "Return" or "Enter".

Yes, this works. I'll use that as a workaround if nobody has a nice solution in iTunes itself.

Doesn't a more recent spec of the ID3 tag allow for all these additional tags? And if so, perhaps there is a utility besides iTunes that lets you write info into these tags. That might be a better (forward-thinking) solution than storing the data in the comments field.

Good idea, thanks. Can you be more specific? What tool would I have to use? How would I link the informations to iTunes?

I Just looked at id3.org, the nice folks who have worked to standardize the id3 tags that store information in MP3s (I assume the strucutre is the same for AAC files). Here is a
full list of id3 tags supported in the v2.4.0 spec.

How do you write to these tags? Well, there are some programs like MP3Rage that let you write to some of these tags. Alternatively, you can use a scripting language like Perl to do this.

I do all of my tag editing in MP3 Rage which I find so much more flexible than iTunes. In the comments field with Rage, Return is next line.

Thanks for your research!

I'm not familiar with Perl. I checked the MP3Rage description. It seems AAC is not supported (?).

Thanks for your info. Two questions:

1. How are the tags in MP3Rage linked to iTunes? How are the tag infos displayed in iTunes

2. All my music library is in AAC. I read MP3Rage does not support AAC. True? Options?

I've started to enter my data this way, works.

I wonder how the "enter" information is transmitted to iTunes. There must be some way to enter "return/enter"...
