Since updating to Panther, I can't print from OpenOffice to my deskjet, connected by USB. I also cannot create PDF's from OpenOffice's print feature. I get no error message, it just says it's printing and then doesn't. The progress box comes up and goes away right away, leading me to think nothing is actually happening.
this happens on both my desktop (dual G4) and iBook (500 G3), but my iBook printed just fine to the Xerox laser printers at school last week. I'll check that again in a little while when I go to class.
I had no problems with this under Jaguar.
Anyone have similar problems or know what to do?
details: dual 867 G4, OS 10.3.1, OpenOffice 1.0.3, no changes to OOo since installing Panther; iBook 500, same OS and OOo versions; HP DeskJet 930c, driver 2.3.1 (came with Panther), connected to G4 by USB & shared to iBook over Linksys router / Airport

Did you try reinstalling OO or repairing permissions?
My perms have been repeatedly getting munged somewhat under Panther.

haven't tried reinstalling OOo yet, I'm hoping for a less disruptive solution. I"ll give the AllOSX script a try after class, it sounds promising & relevant.
I am still ablt to print to the laser printers at school, my guess is that that's because I've enabled direct PS printing in StartOpenOffice.org so it's bypassing the messed-up Apple printing system.

well, the fix from All OSX didn't make any difference, still can't print from OOo. I don't know if it's related, but I also can't create desktop printers and can't see the current print jobs, both under the Printers menu of the Printer Setup Utility. Do you think these problems are related?

hm, just tried that, didn't make any difference either. Still can't see jobs, create desktop printer, or print from OOo. The fact that I also can't create a PDF from OOo, which doesn't involve the HP drivers at all leadds me to think I really do need to reinstall it, or perhaps just ghostscript and whatever else it uses to print.

turns out the problem was that when I did the archive/install of Panther, I didn't move over all the things OOo had added to /usr/local/bin, specifically ghostscript and fondu (not that fondu was related to the printing problem). Reinstalling ghostscript enabled OOo to print, though it's stuck on Letter Banner paper size, causing the printer to move the paper more than necessary, but at least it prints now.
this means that my inability to Show Jobs or create desktop printers is unrelated, so I'll take that up in another thread, when I feel like dealing with it.
thanks for all the suggestions!
