I'm helping out my father's epson 740i printer. The problem is that the Epson status Montior (it tells you how much the ink cartitlage is left) is blank, we clicked on "UPDATE" and it wont come up with anything.. it remains blank on the screen.

I was thinking maybe I should throw away the driver. But the problem is that where can I find Epson 740i driver for OS X on www.epson.com ???

Anyone care to help me out? thanks.

FYI: it's running on 10.3.1
Thanks in advance.

From your description, I think what you want is not a driver actually but something called the epson monitor. It should be installed by OSX and can be found on the OSX installation disks. Try reinstalling the epson 740 driver/monitor.

Yeah, I forgot to mention that my dad bought this printer back in 1999 or something.. It comes with OS 9 driver installation CD for EPSON 740i.. Since we're on OS X now.. So how can I get driver from www.epson.com to re-install it??

We want to delete and install new one to refresh everything.

Well here is page for 740i:

http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/s...Type=Downloads

and here is page for OSX:

http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/s...;noteoid=17764

But the real answer is on the second page:

A: The following EPSON printer drivers are included and installed via the Apple Mac OS X CD-ROM:

EPSON Stylus COLOR 740, EPSON Stylus COLOR 740i and 740SE
EPSON Stylus COLOR 760
EPSON Stylus COLOR 777, EPSON Stylus COLOR 777i
EPSON Stylus COLOR 860
EPSON Stylus COLOR 880, EPSON Stylus COLOR 880i and EPSON Stylus COLOR 8³ (8 cubed)
EPSON Stylus COLOR 900
EPSON Stylus COLOR 980
EPSON Stylus C40 Series
EPSON Stylus C60
EPSON Stylus C80
EPSON Stylus Stylus Photo 785EPX
EPSON Stylus Stylus Photo 820
EPSON Stylus Stylus Photo 870
EPSON Stylus Stylus Photo 875DC
EPSON Stylus Stylus Photo 890
EPSON Stylus Stylus Photo 1270
EPSON Stylus Stylus Photo 1280
EPSON Stylus Stylus Photo 2000P

The driver should be on your OSX install disks (which version of OSX are you running? if 10.3 they should be on disks 2 or 3 I think)

Yeah, I know, when I got that link and it doesn't say anything about OSX for 740i printer. I've looked around and no luck..

I also just looked at EPSON CD i have here and it says it supports 8.1 or later. when i put CD in and it opens in OS 9.2 (sigh)

What can I do to get driver for OSX?? I can't remember where I first got the OS X driver

HELP!

If you have OSX, use your install disks. If you don't have them anymore, perhaps you can borrow someone's running the same version to just install the driver.

From Epson:

1. Double click on the Mac HARD DRIVE
2. Double click on the LIBRARY folder
3. Double click on the PRINTERS folder
4. Drag the EPSON folder to the trash can

*NOTE* If you receive an access denied error message, this indicates
that
you do not have root access. You will need to contact Apple for
assistance
on obtaining Root Access.

Then follow the steps below to install your printer in OS 10.3:

1) Insert the Panther Installation Disk #3 CD and double-click on the
icon
created by it on your desktop.
2) Double-click the Packages folder.
3) Double-click the EPSONPRINTERDRIVERS2.PKG folder.
4) Enter your administrator password and hit CONTINUE, then follow the
prompts to complete the installation.
5) Make sure the printer is connected and turned on, then restart your
computer.
6) After the computer restarts, open your PRINTER SETUP UTILITY (you
can
open the printer utility by opening your HARD DRIVE, APPLICATIONS,
UTILITIES, PRINTER SETUP UTILITY).
7) If your printer is listed, simply close the print center and try to
print. If not, click the ADD button.
8) In the window that appears, select EPSON USB from the drop-down
menu,
then select your printer and hit ADD.
9) Try printing.

Forgot to mention: when I reinstalled Epson's drivers from Disk 3, the Epson status monitor comes up with the correct info when you click "Utility" on the print monitor window.

Dump the GIMP drivers and install Epson's.
