many of you know that we cannot SEND e-mail from a t-mobile hotspot (such as those at starbucks and borders) with macmail

you can RECEIVE mail/just not send it

does anyone HERE have a solution for that?

This was news to me. Been a couple months since I traveled & tried it, but I *thought* the Mail app did that successfully - am I mis-remembering?

Are you referring to processes only via the Mail app? Does it apply only to .mac accts or other POP as well?

Do you have a problem sending in a browser vial webmail.mac.com ?

i can send in a browser
and i can send using my aol acct
and some say that you can send using entourage
i have yet to try that
where i get into trouble is when i am at a starbucks on vacation and want to send some iphotos......
so easy to have the program DOWNsize them for sending
but the server won't authenticate when i am on the road when it is transferred through the t-mobile hopspot

it all works well at home and at someone else's house

but not on the road
the apple site is full of these comments
but from last march and april
none since
but i find NO FIX for it
just wondering who might know

thanks so much

greg

the SMTP port is probably blocked and you're not able to communicate with smtp.mac.com (if you're using that.) I've had this problem in several locations, not just t-mobile hotspots. (Hotels are notorious for this.) So I set up my laptop as its own mail server using Postfix Enabler. <http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/13237> It's wonderful, really simple to set up (one click, after app launch.) And it's much, much faster than waiting on smtp.mac.com, which is really slow for me even when it's not blocked. Now I can send email from anywhere with an Internet connection.
