I'm a recent switcher, and on my PC had always used Notepad to code the HTML for my website. When I try to save a .html in TextEdit on my iBook, it won't let me save it as a .html, it says that it has to be .rtf or .doc This is really bad for me. Help?

Make the text "plain text" in the Format menu. Save it but don't allow TextEdit to add the txt extension.

In the TextEdit preferences make it ignore HTML commands before opening the file again or it will try to render it instead of opening it as plain text again.

There are a number of text editors for OS X that are better suited to HTML editing than TextEdit.

I use SubEthaEdit, which is free and has good syntax highlighting. In addition, it plays well with Transmit (shareware) or Fugu (free) for remote editing over ftp

let's not forget the source editor built into OmniWeb - it's a pretty nice little number as well.

Indeed. I love the automatic tag organizing and syntax/structural error checking.
