Thanks to the feedback I got, I've put up a new version of the tool. Now JunkMatcher will decode MIME/QP encoded messages back before matching begins. Plus a simple error reporting mechanism is added.
The link now also gives a short section on how to test your pattern. Enjoy and send me bugs if you find any!

Now added IP-based spam filtering (using SpamCop.net), and filtering by matching filename of the attachments (so you can throw away messages with .exe attachment, for example).
... and it's free, easy and comes with source code! (use at your own risk though)

OK, I just setup your Junk filter, but I have a question:
Does this setup download the junk mail and place it in my Junk Mail folder, or does it keep it from downloading at all to my Mac (leaving it on the server)? If the latter is the case, then will I have to manually delete my mail off the server since the junk your system identifies never reaches my Mac?
Thanks for your efforts and your time! I am looking forward to seeing how it works.

JunkMatcher will move the junk mails it identifies to the junk mailbox. I would whether the particular mail will be off your POP server is left for you to decide? (in Preferences the Advanced setting for accounts has the option)
Since personally I only have IMAP accounts, I don't really know the answer. I'd appreciate if you could let me know how it turns out there.
Thanks!

I tried junkmatcher, but it was way too slow..
Is there a way to have junkmatcher run after the built-in junk filter goes?
In other words, let mail do its thing, then have junkmatcher check what's left in the inbox.
btw: The new dmg and installer package look great in your 1.0 release. Good work.

If you followed the instructions that's exactly that it does - only check what's left from Mail's built-in filter.
Also check the FAQ - there's a QA just for the speed issue.
And I also should point out the great graphics was done by Steve Caplin, and I really love it!

Yah, man... I'm all for junkmail being filtered and I will definitely try this thing out... But what about that new "CAN-SPAM" act just passed by the Federal Government on January 1st, 2004? I'm not sure spammers can be "shut down" anymore. Man, you gotta wonder what their motivation behind that one was...
From http://www.spamhaus.org/news.lasso?article=150:
Against the advice of all anti-spam organizations, the U.S. House of Representatives has passed the ill-fated CAN-SPAM Act, a bill backed overwhelmingly by spammers and dubbed the "YOU-CAN-SPAM" Act because it legalizes spamming.

I must have had something set wrong my first attempt. The speed is great, no issues at all, works exactly as advertised.
