I am looking for a solution that you can enter another mac computer's desktop. Just like PC's?

I'm not talking about 'connecting to server' with its IP numbers. I have 2 macs here and I would like to know how can I enter another mac computer with its desktop on my screen?

Thanks again

Nasrudin sat on a river bank when someone shouted to him from the opposite side: "Hey! how do I get across?" "You are across!" Nasrudin shouted back.

Developer,
I'm new with this "Share my desktop" software.

Do you know how to use it? I'm not sure how to connect my computer to another mac?

Do I have to download "Share My Desktop" on another mac in order to get it connected???

Please help. Thanks

You need a VNC client on the other computer. Download Chicken of the VNC, run SMD and enter IP, port and password you see there into Chicken of the VNC on the other computer.

Ahh .. we figured all of that out (I downloaded both VNCDimension and ChickenOfTheVNC) but we couldn't get it to work. I could connect to my own SMB server on my own machine (so I think we got the process figured out) , but we couldn't connect to each other's SMB server across the net. We were using our IP address for the "hostname" , port number as supplied by SMB (5901 by default), and then the password. Shoulda worked ... still not sure why it didn't.

If you'd like to give a try connecting to mine, feel free to IM me and I'll get SMB running again.

Well ... guess I'll search the web a little to see if I can find what the prob might be. But ... I've got the port open, and smb says I'm ready to roll. Thanks for all the help

If for any reason you want to try again, I have a new server OSXvnc up an running right now (same port, password, IP). It has great reviews on VT and was updated on 9/17/03 -- maybe SMB doesn't play nice with Panther.

Can't connect.

Share My Desktop works great here on the local network.

You could just try OSXvnc itself instead of Share My Desktop, if the latter isn't working.

I used to use OSXvnc a few years ago; it worked pretty well then.

hmmm ... can't figure it then. Unless my ISP is blocking in somehow (I understand that some do that for some of the more common ports ... so home users don't serve files from their machines). Don't really know though
