hi, i am a green switcher, what's your comment on cocktail vs macaronic? as it seem that cocktail lack scheduled tasks, and more expensive, but what's their performance? thanks
I'm not familiar with macaronic, but if it's anything like Cocktail then it really doesn't matter. I don't think either app really does that much on its own; they're both GUIs for underlying UNIX processes (like cron scripts) and so have little to do with what actually goes on when you use them.
That's also why I can't bring myself to pay for a utility like that; it's all right there already.
I think the question is about Cocktail and Macaroni. Both are excellent apps and I own and use both. Cocktail can do a few more things, but I use Macaroni for background system maintenance because it is so convenient.
In Macaroni (a system preference), you can set up cron daily, weekly, and monthly as well as fix permissions with a mere doubleclick. They will run automatically when you schedule them. This app just saves the hassle of remembering to do routine maintenance tasks.
