This from Versiontracker... Just in case

BEWARE OF THIS UPDATE!!!!

WARNING: This update will delete any "Other" preference panes you have installed in /Library/PreferencePanes/ and ~/Library/PreferencePanes/ !

On reboot, after a "successful" install, I opened the System Preferences application to see the new ATI prefpane, and to my horror I discovered that all my "Other" preference panes, such as Microsoft Mouse, iChatStatus, StuffIt AVR, (Developer's CHUD) Hardware, Adobe's VersionCue, etc. had vanished. Okay, I thought, no big deal, probably just a corrupt System Preference pane cache:

/Users/mdouma46/Library/Caches/com.apple.preferencepanes.cache

So I deleted that and relaunched System Preferences. No change. My "Other" preference panes were gone.

So I looked inside the /Library/ folder and the ~/Library/ folder, and my "Preference Panes" folders no longer existed. Completely gone, nowhere to be found.

From a thread on another web site,

Thread Link

it looks like ATI pulled the offending update (Displays 4.1.1) and substituted another:

"Crusher - I just posted a note in the news that Bruno said they have revised installers now -
check the date of your ati installer (the unstuffed installer app/icon) - is it dated Nov 17th (revised one) or Nov. 12th (the original installers date)

The Panther update I downloaded is dated 11/17/2003. The Jaguar update I download is dated 11/12/2003."

They recommend not using any update dated 11/12/03.

From the same website:

First Feedback on ATI 10.2.8 Driver Update - Note: Bruno of ATI wrote at appx 4:30PM ET today that the installers for the 10.3 and 10.2.8 updates (see links below) have been revised, but it may be best to wait until later tonight to ensure all mirrors at ATI have the updated installers. If you download the file - after unstuffing it look at the date of the ATI installer file - the original versions were dated Nov. 12th - the revised installers should have today's date - Nov. 17th.

Can anyone tell me what ATi's software does? This incident just reminded me that I didn't install whatever was on the CD that came with my radeon 7000 because it worked fine without it. (so of course I don't need to update anything because nothing was broken). But now I'm curious, does this driver do anything cool that I'm missing out on?

Uncle Skeleton:But now I'm curious, does this driver do anything cool that I'm missing out on?
As far as what the radeon november 2003 update does for those on OS 10.2.8, it remains a mystery. It would be nice if ATI would bless us with that info. Until then, has anyone installed it and seen anything new? Like an ATI menu item with options, per se?

With my Radeon 8500, I've had to use the OS X built-in drivers and there haven't been any options like I used to have in OS 9. Maybe this brings those to OS X now? Who knows... I'm too chicken to try it myself...

Anyone try this thing? Sorry, I guess this should be in a new thread since I'm not talking about 10.3, but this is the only thread I could find.

i installed it yesterday (G4 450 flashed PC Radeon 8500), but i'm running Panther. i backed up my PrefPanes just in case, but the install deleted nothing.

it puts an ATI displays prefpane in sys prefs now, iirc. and all the Mac2TV settings work now (like image adjustment on a TV plugged into the S-video port). this update was just what i was waiting for, since the atiTVout.kext wouldn't load due to a panther incompatibility.
