Hey all,
I was reading
this article at IGM about Fred Anderson. They discussed advertising, and distibution. But one of the comments posted got me thinking:
Better yet if Steve was able to get them to agree to let him do everything his way, and secure a good timeslot to showcase Apple. I'm thinking this would be a "Special Apple Event" on QVC, and I'm sure the Mac Community could do a great job of hyping it up beforehand. I'm not quite sure what I'd recommend selling - probably iPod, mostly iPod, with a small side of iTunes, focusing mainly on the iTunes Music Store. I'm thinking along these lines: Call now and get the 20GB iPod for 4 easy payments of $99.97, and with your order, receive a $20 or $30 iTMS Gift Certificate.
(I'd also spend part of this presentation talking about the pitfalls of illegal music, and gently nudging parents that they should be giving their kid a legal downloading method.)
Perhaps it would also be a good idea to invite some iTunes-exclusive artists to perform, and make it into a 2 or 3 hour music event, combining sales with entertainment.
Sorry for the long quote, but got me thinking - Apple's rolling ahead with iTMS, and Anderson specifically mentioned it as a recent apple innovation. So where will they innovate? Spread the word of the iTunes Music Store, and then make it a phenomenon.
After 1 year, Apple should sponsor a SICK live music concert to be broadcast on TELEVISION, to celebrate the 1 yr anniversary of the iTunes Music Store. Between all the artists, iPod advertising, natch.
I am sure more deals like the pepsi one will surface, and I would advertise the heck out of the store - make the people who don't use computers think "Oh, the iTunes Music Store is how you buy music on the computer."
