Is anyone else here having problems with Safari pegging the CPU at 100% when the little animated smilies are visible on the "create a new post" screen? I have tried all the suggestions that I have found (deleting ~/Library/Caches/Safari and ~/Library/Safari/Icons) and restarting Safari and it still does it. This wasn't happening to me a week ago so I dunno what changed.

1GHz 12" PB, 10.3.1, 768 MB, no apps running but Mail and Safari.

I have never installed APE or any of the Safari enhancers.. Tried rebooting..

While a page full of animated GIFs barely make a blip on my dual 2GHz G5, my 600MHz iBook runs about 50% utilization.

On my dual 800 Powermac safari will take up to 50-70% usage at times on even pages with lesser graphics. Restarting it helps...
