My other thread has gleaned some answers http://forums.macnn.com/showthread.p...hreadid=189121 but I'm still having trouble due to a Panther bug.

In Jaguar Mail.app I had 2 users setup, me and my wife. All the mail server details were the same, but the name and email address was different. The second account was setup so that it wasn't part of the 'get new mail' command. This worked fine. Both were setup not to delete mail from the server as my desktop machine is where the emails are kept permanently.

Now in Panther, it's setup the same BUT, when I click 'get new mail' it checks both accounts and downloads 2 copies of everything, despite the 2nd account having the option of being part of 'get new mail' unchecked. This is clearly a bug. Is there another way of having 2 users? I know I can have multiple email addresses separated by commas but you can't do that with the name which is silly.

Any help appreciated.

In Panther, why are you both using the same account? Fast User Switching is your friend.

I haven't read the other thread, sorry if I'm missing something.

I've always found multiple users a pain though I guess I could try it. I'm just annoyed at this Panther bug in Mail that's stopped our perfectly workable solution from working.

Create the account without a password for added easy switcher goodness. I just did this for the old man who became annoyed every time he had to switch back and input a password.

For god's sake, OS X is a multi-user OS. Use it that way. Good grief. Why make yourself jump through all these hoops when you've got a completely workable solution that's even better now with FUS. It's time we changed our computing ways to get with the 21st century.

Someone has to say it so I may as well. I hope you don't have any remote access services running like ssh or FTP...

OK calm down please. Personally, using multiple users is overkill for the occasional email that my wife wishes to send or receive. The Macs are used primarily by me - my annoyance is more to do with the bug in Panther Mail than anything else. As usual with forums I kind of wish I hadn't bothered asking as politeness seems to go missing when certain people reply.

Control-Click on the inbox of the second account and select "Disconnect from Internet" or something like that (I'm using a German OS X).

You will still be able to send mail using that address but Mail won't try to download messages from the account, which is what you want, isn't it?

THANK YOU! That's exactly what it needed to cure the problem. Now when I click 'get new mail' it only downloads it once. Thanks again!
