Print to PDF files choke Acrobat Reader

I have some long PDF files that I made by using the "Save As PDF" button in the Print dialog.

Preview can display the files fine but Acrobat Reader 5.1 on OS9 cannot display the text past the 38th page.

This is repeatable with all of the PDF's I have created...

Is there a trick to getting these files to display properly?
