This is of interest to me.....

Why does Soundtrack and Compressor need to know my address book personal information to run???

What other apps are doing this??

It uses it to "pre-fill" all the information in the registration dialog. You still have a choice on whether to send that information in or not.

Of course, I haven't used little snitch or anything to verify that. But I would be surprised if it was any more nefarious than that. Probably the fact that it gives a weird error when you don't have a card defined is a bug (I think they would have done it quieter if it was for anything more sinister.)

I do not have those software titles but I remember getting a similar error code for Keynote.
Any other suggestions for this error code and it's ( FIX ) .
I hope geekwagon is correct.

Either this is yet another case of bad QA on Apple's part, or they are doing something Highly Uncool. I don't know which.

I sincerely hope they're not requiring unnecessary personal information just to use the software. There are very fer things which could cause me to Switch away (probably to Linux), but that is one of them.

I got curious about this, and since I managed to totally screw up my main box so bad that I had to reinstall the OS today (first time ever in the 1.5 years I have been a Mac user again.. It was my own fault, too) I decided to test this when I installed FCP and DVD SP2.

I installed Little Snitch first and ensured that it was working by testing with another application first. Then I installed DVD SP 2, and it did pull my information out of my card, but it never made any connections outside of my computer if I clicked "register later".

I then installed FCP 4.0 and did the same thing. It also never made any connections.

I just realized typing this that I haven't done the FCP 4.1 and DVD SP 2.0.2 updates yet. When they finish I will re-run the apps and edit this post with the results.

EDIT: OK, I have all the latest updates installed. Neither app made any connections to anywhere without my permission. For some reason, FCP 4.1 popped the dang registration box up again, but DVDSP2.0.2 didn't. In any case, looks like nothing nefarious/sneaky is going on.
