VHS to DVD with a twist

	I have some tapes I would like to transfer to DVD, the trick is that the only method I have to get the tape recorded to a computer is via a pc. What I have tried so far is to record the tape to an mpg file then transfer it to my powerbook to clean it up in imovie and burn with my superdrive. imovie didn't like the mpg so I recorded it again as an avi. imovie didn't like that either. anyone have any ideas on how I can go about doing this?
