Is anyone out there using Magic Menu 6.5.1 with Panther?

I was able to use the technique described here to use Magic Menu 6.5.1 in Jaguar, but in Panther, Magic Menu gives an error -43, saying StuffIt Engine can't be found. I installed StuffIt Expander 8 and the 8.0.1 update, but Magic Menu still won't work.

I emailed Aladdin sales and asked if the current version of Magic Menu is compatible with Panther, but got no response. I wonder, are Magic Menu and Panther simply mutually exclusive?

i am using stuffit deluxe 6.5, including magic menu, on 10.3 without problem, even for disk image mounting. i have never installed the 6.5.1 update, or any part of stuffit 7 or 8. sitx was a still-born format.

Hmmmm. Then I must have something funky going on, but at least it appears worth trying to fix. Thanks!

macworld had an article about jaguar that listed a hack for magic menu. apparently apple is the culprit here: they disabled magic menu from working because they want to own that little menu bar.

i was able to use this hack, and it worked. then i think through one of the dot releases apple's coders got crafty and closed off the hack, because now magic menu does not work.

if anyone has found that hack, post it here, but i'll see if i can't dig thru some back issues to find it.

and, aladdin support is an oxymoron.

I'm not a complete idiot, some parts are
missing.

Here's the hack I used:

sudo ln -s /System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/HIServices.framework /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/HIServices.framework

I'm presuming spambot (above) used something like this to enable Magic Menu in Panther.
